Romanesco Courgette F1 hybrid - 10 seeds per packet
Romanesco Latino F1 Hybrid Courgette seeds produce wonderful fruits and as a vegetable one looks simply amazing when served cut in rounds - it looks little cog wheels! It just happens to have a great flavour too.
The compact and erect habit makes this attractive ribbed Courgette both novel after cooking and hardly recognisable 'raw' in a green salad. Ribbing is so pronounced it should have been called 'cartwheel'. Harvest with the flower still attached and serve whole as a 'starter'.
Sow Indoors: April-May ½in (1cm) deep in individual module trays of firm pre watered compost Temperature 21°C (70°F). Keep soil moist at all times.
Sow Outdoors: May-June ½in (1cm) deep direct in harvest location. Keep soil moist at all times.
Plant Out: June. Harden off young plants before planting out into the required harvest position 3ft (90cm) apart when risk of frost has passed.
Harvest: August-October.
Pick regularly when fruit is 4in (10cm).
Picked small and whole, the flavour reminds you of globe artichoke hearts. Its flowers are huge too – ideal for stuffing and dipping into tempura batter.
Do at least two sowings of courgettes, splitting your packets, so that you have fruit to pick for 3-4 months at a stretch. Sow two or three different colours so they look good in the garden and on the plate.
