Chilli Pepper Havana Gold seeds - 8 seeds per packet.
The Havana Gold chilli pepper is a half hardy annual, the seeds of which can produce high yields of fruit from early in the season. We have not grown these yet but growers have told us that the fruits have a mild, aromatic habanero flavour with a mild heat value of between 500 to 2,000 SHU's. That means you can eat them raw, use them in salads or cook with them. Harvesting in normally between July and September. The plants are easy to grow from seed, with an open growth habit, and produce an abundant crop of rich orange chillies which ripen early in the season.
Havana Gold fruits and good to look at and can be grown on an inside windowsill, conservatory or greenhouse. Grown on any of those 3 places will ensure you have a good crop, but again, growers state that you can grow these on a sunny patio or in your garden. That's as maybe but try doing that in the middle of Derbyshire and you will wake up one morning to find them all crozzled up and wilted. It all depends where you live.
Sow indoors from January to April, in soil 0.5 cm deep, in separate pots if possible. Pot on in late May outdoors either in containers as patio plants or in a well protected site (see above). Peppers can be slow to germinate so allow up 35+ days. Compost should not be too moist to prevent the seeds from rotting. All chilli peppers are very sensitive to the cold.
