Chilli Pepper Thunder Mountain Longhorn F1 seeds
The Chilli Pepper Longhorn which came from Japan is a vigorous but very high yielding new variety of chilli. These very long fruits are much larger than competing varieties and have an unusual ‘curl’ at the end - which is why they are called Longhorn! Longhorn chillies are easily grown from seed, especially if you have a propagator.
The fruits are tasty but mild in heat, with a Scoville rating of 15-20,000, but this is just the right heat for a great many people who some heat without it spoiling their meal. Bred in intense heat, Longhorn will withstand a similar intense heat and direct sun without any damage to the fruits, and whilst it can still be grown in a container, it will require support because of the large volume of fruit - lots of long, 6 to 9" + fruits, but before that stage we recommend that you give the plants some support, either a thin stick or a cane.

In fact we highly recommend that Longhorn plant seeds are sown indoors in most of the UK as our climate doesn't lend itself for growing chillies outside. Yes, you can grow them outdoors but the yield will be poor compared to greenhouse/conservatory grown plants which have the benefit of a relatively stable heat and no draughts.
When the first fruits begin to emerge it benefits the plant if you can give it a weekly feed of either tomato food or seaweed extract, and if you do that you should still be picking your Longhorn chillies in the run up to Christmas.
In the image on the RHS of the page you can see that the fruits of this plant are still green. They will shortly turn red and be ready for picking.
