Loretta Celery grown from seed in your garden
Grow Celery Loretta from seed on your vegetable plot for lots of refreshing celery sticks, naturally white and succulent. Loretta is a first rate self-blanching variety that is naturally vigorous and disease-resistant to the most common of garden diseases.
Loretta produces smooth, crisp, yet succulent, white celery sticks with a wonderful flavour which you can harvest from mid summer until mid autumn. This strain of celery is recommended by the Royal Horticultural Society with F1 generation hybrid vigour and disease resistance.
Your seeds arrive to you in air-tight packets that have lots of gardening information on them including sowing tips and aftercare.
Celery seeds can be found in the flower of a celery plant, these normally develop the second year after they have been cultivated. Celery seeds are also known to contain ingredients which may have a positive effect on your health, including anti-inflammatory compounds and a range of anti-oxidants.
Quality Celery seeds are specially treated to prevent leaf spot disease. We offer traditional varieties that will require earthing up to blanch the stems, as well as a self-blanching variety to help take some of the strain out of growing!
Sow Indoors: February-April thinly ¼in (0.5cm) deep in clean trays or modules of firm pre watered compost. Maintain 60°F (15°C). Keep soil moist at all times.
Plant Out: May-June into the required harvest position 10in (25cm) apart with 10in (25cm) between each row when fear of frost has past. Plant in a block.
Harvest: August-October
No need to grow in a trench or earth up. Seed has been hot water treated to control Septoria (leafspot)
