Mushroom Red chilli seeds and plants

The Mushroom Red is an heirloom chilli pepper thought to be a spicy ancestor of today's bell peppers. It has an exceptional and unique taste – a blend of spice and fruitiness, certainly something you would to try.

Mushroom Red is easy to grow from seed and over time will provide masses of fruit - yes, it is very prolific, in fact this is one of the easiest chilli plants to grow

The chilli fruits themselves are golf ball sized, starting off green and ripening to red, resembling an upside down mushroom

Unripe Mushroom RedThese are strong plants which produce fruits over a long period.

Mushroom Red chillies originate from Jamaica and have a heat level of around 76,000 SHU's - hot enough for most people but  far milder than many others from the same region.

After re-potting several times mine finish up in 10 litre pots - as all mature chilli plants of this size have massive root systems and need as much space as possible.

This is my first year (2020) growing this amazing chilli which I started off in early January. It is now mid August and the plant is nearly 90 cm tall (3ft) and covered in green unripe fruit which we are expecting ripen to a deep red in the next few weeks. It is certainly going to be a regular in my greenhouse from now on!
