7 Pot Douglah seeds and plants

7 Pot Chocolate Douglah fruitThe Chocolate Douglah Chilli Pepper is without doubt one of the Hottest peppers in the world, maxing out at a very respectable 1,800,00 SHU’s.
This chilli is also called the Chocolate 7 Pot, so called because it is able to give heat to 7 pots of stew. This Super Hot chilli hails from Trinidad and Tobago

The Douglah has a very nice flavour and a unique taste far different from the red 7 Pot varieties. It is also prolific and produces a host of pods.

If you are thinking of growing this gorgeous plant next season then you will need to sow your seeds early as these and many other “Super Hots” can take 120 days from transplanting to fruiting. Even then you have to wait for them to reach a mature size and to attain their chocolate colour

The wait is well worth it though as you will have grown one of the hottest chillies in the world and this will be an excellent talking point with your friends and neighbours.

Germination will be slow and could be as long as 35 days so you will certainly require an electric propagator to keep the seeds at between 25 and 30 C. If you do not use a propagator with plants this then your chances of germinating the seeds will be slim at best.

My tip for germinating Chocolate Douglah seeds is to place them in moist compost – not wet and soggy or they will rot.

After germination keep the seedlings nice and warm and out of draughts. Re-pot in stages as they grow, ending up with a 5 litre pot at least for the mature plant which will grow to a height of 90 cm (3’) including the height of the pot.

Watering is critical but difficult to gauge because you need to keep the roots moist (as with all chillies) but not soaking wet. Feed weekly with either seaweed extract or tomato food
