Celeriac Monarch seeds develop into plants which have a much smoother skin, better flavour and textured flesh than regular celeriac. You’ll see how surprisingly easy it is to grow producing delicious white flesh and smooth roots.
Home-grown celeriac is great for mash, rostis, for puree or even a garnish not out of place in the kitchen of any masterchef.
Celeriac is a relative of Celery, the difference being you grow Celeriac for its roots rather than the greens. Grow it in exactly the same way and you will have superb results as they are not as fussy as Celery plants.
Celeriac is becoming very popular for its nutty celery-flavour and for its versatility. Try it grated into autumn salads, cooked and mashed with potatoes, or roasted with other mixed root vegetables.
We recommend you sow indoors in late winter thinly ¼in (0.5cm) deep in trays or modules, keeping soil moist at all times and plant out in May or June 12in (30cm) apart with 12in (30cm) between each row. If overwintering in the ground to improve flavour cover with straw or compost to protect from frost.
