The fruit of the chilli pepper Jalapeno seeds grow into medium sized medium sized hot peppers measuring an average of 2 to 3.5 inches in length but growing up to 6 inches long in some cases. Hugely popular as a 'pizza pepper'. Hugely popular as a pizza pepper. The Jalapeno pepper is a fruit of the Capsicum pod type, should you wish to know that.Jalapeno chilli

Jalapeno peppers are one of the staple foods of Mexico and the American Southwest, and whilst these steady producers may take a little while to flower (in the UK climate), once they start they keep on producing throughout the growing season. They are also extremely popular here in the UK.

The plants grow to about 3’ in height and produce blunt-ended fruits with thick, dark green skins that turn to bright red when fully ripe.

The flavour deepens as the peppers ripen and both colours have their classic uses. The green peppers are most often used for roasting, stuffing, pickling and salsas, and whilst I am no gourmet I know that they are hugely popular on pizza toppings.

Jalapenos are not particularly hot – in the range of 2,500 – 10,000 SHU which is probably why they are so popular as they give you a tiny taste of heat without being hot enough to spoil your meal.
